Honda sales plunge 41% in May - Business First of Columbus:

A year ago, demand for fuel-efficientt vehicles had sent Honda to a recordc month of salesat 167,997 That represents a drop of 41 percenyt from a year ago, when prices at the pump were higherd and the automobile industry hadn’t yet hit crisix mode. Columbus Business First reports monthly salesd unadjusted for the differences in the numbedr of selling days yearto year.
Honda’s salesd in May, taking into accounft one fewer selling daylast month, fell 39 Leading the decline in monthly sales for May was the company’ws flagship division, which saw a 42 percent drop in sales at 88,875 vehicles. Its luxury Acura divisio saw sales fall 36 percentgto 9,469 vehicles. Honda sales in the first five monthsd of the year fell 34 percentto 430,358 compared with 655,819 a year ago. That accounts for a 34 percenr drop in Honda salesat 387,556 vehicles and a 35 percen decline in Acura sales at 42,802.
Marysville-base employs more than 12,000 workers at assemblhy and engine plants in and aroundCentrap Ohio, where they produce Honda Civics, CR-Vs, Elements and Acura TLs and RDXs.
